Vacuum forming
Custom designed packaging, rugged trays, and product enclosures
Background
Vacuum forming is a versatile moulding process to shape heated plastic sheets over a custom made pattern.
Lucid’s team has designed, specified, and made vacuum formings for over 30 years, including:
High-volume pack inserts.
Clam packs.
Blister packs.
Specialist trays.
Low-volume rugged enclosures.
Well-designed vacuum formings provide:
High levels of impact protection.
Clarity for display packaging.
Economic, fast tooling and setup.
Ingress resistant seal potential.
Reuse and recyclability.
Facilities
To accelerate development and production, Lucid has invested in forming equipment. We make tooling and trimming jigs here too.
Product enclosures
The Anisys GO charger stand shown above is designed and manufactured at Lucid. Vacuum forming provides robust, wipe-clean surfaces that are ideal for this low-volume medical device application.
Our team made 3D–print tooling, including inserts, to create undercutting features. We assemble the formings and electronics under Lucid’s ISO 13485 medical device quality management system.
Clam packs
Perfect for hanger display, where a high level of product protection, and a complete external seal are required.
Clams can be separable from print inserts for recyclability.
Blister packs
Board-backed blisters are an option for sealed hanger point-of-sale displays. Blisters generally use less material than clams or carton inserts, but as board and plastic film are bonded together, they can be less straightforward to recycle.
Pack inserts
Our team has created many close-fitting carton inserts and trays for high-value recyclable, protective packaging.
